Unlike The Vacation, The Hunting Party takes place in the dead of winter, as longtime pals who met at Oxford University decamp to a remote estate in Scotland to ring in the new year.

Logan’s The Vacation and thought “Wow, I’d like to read another book about a group of friends who go on a trip together, and then one of them gets murdered!” allow me to recommend Lucy Foley’s The Hunting Party. But even non-viewers will no doubt be touched by Bea’s relationship with her best friend and her supportive family, who are very much a part of her journey. I found it tremendously entertaining, though I’d be curious to know if someone who has never watched the show it’s based on would have as much fun with it as I did. In fact, I binged all 400 pages in just a couple of days. It’s been at least a decade since I last watched an episode of “The Bachelor/ette,” but I am so familiar with its tropes that I really got a kick out of this book. Since this is reality TV, there are plenty of surprise twists coming her way, leading to some of the most shocking episodes ever. Some of them are downright cruel a few of them genuinely seem interested in her.

Bea is convinced that they aren’t there for the right reasons, as they say in the “Bachelor”-verse. On her first night, Bea meets her 25 suitors, most of whom are conventionally handsome. She’s not necessarily expecting to fall in love Bea is still broken-hearted a few months after she fell into bed with her longtime crush, who then disappeared without a trace, ignoring her texts and emails. Bea figures appearing on a national TV show would give her a huge publicity boost, and allow her to serve as a role model to other plus-sized women. Weiner fans who remember the days when she used to recap “The Bachelor” and “The Bachelorette” will particularly enjoy this novel, which features a fictional reality dating show called “Main Squeeze.”īea Schumacher’s online essay about the show’s stable of size zero women contestants goes viral, and “Main Squeeze”’s new producer decides Bea herself would make an ideal bachelorette, guaranteed to garner blockbuster ratings. If you’ve already read Jennifer Weiner’s Big Summer and thought “Wow, I’d like to read another book about a plus-sized Instagram influencer!” allow me to recommend Kate Stayman-London’s One To Watch.
